HIGHERGLYPHICS is a significant contribution to the Erie Art Museum by complementing its recently opened $10M expansion. In the coming months Todd Scalise will install a permanent, continuous, postmodern-styled mural employing the idea of a regional historical narrative.

This project is distinctive. The annex stairwell is a main artery in the museum negotiated many times throughout the day. Installing a work of art in this location offers an element of the unexpected and enhances the museum with added fascination.

This project is significant. The four-story mural design follows a narrative extending from prehistory to the present containing many historical references from the Erie region. The mural exists as a bold, stylized, unified design that flows continuously from the basement to the third floor. In addition to the artwork itself, Todd and the EAM will produce a variety of related merchandise that will both market the project and produce revenue for the museum.

This project is innovative. The mural will employ the most contemporary printing techniques and compliment the LEED status of the building with its application of environmentally friendly materials.
